#GotTickets? Upcoming Movies of 2017-2018

What a time to be alive.

There are some incredible movies coming out in 2017 and 2018.

I'm going to make the effort to see them ALL in theaters.

'Kingsman: The Golden Circle' (Sept. 22)

From director Matthew Vaughn, Kingsman follows a young English super spy Eggsy (Taron Egerton) as he teams up with American counterparts to take on super villain Poppy (Julianne Moore), a criminal mastermind behind the nefarious global organization The Golden Circle (USA Today). It's the sequel to Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

To be Onyx (shoutout to Onyx 11 :) I have not seen the first film, but I've got to watch it. Why Watch? Stellar all-star cast, foreign accents and combat including awesome weapons (including an electric lasso & a whip that causes sonic booms). Taron Egerton is definitely a scene stealer.

Also, I can officially say that it has the best theatrical trailer I've ever seen. PERIOD. POINT. BLANK.

Maybe you'll agree:

Marshall (October 23)

From director Reginald Hudlin, Marshall is biopic highlighting future Supreme Court justice, Thurgood Marshall as a young NAACP attorney in 1940 tasked with helping Jewish lawyer Sam Friedman (Gad) defend an African-American man (Sterling K. Brown) accused of the rape and attempted murder of a rich white woman (Hudson) (USA Today). With this country's racial climate, this film is definitely for the culture. Chadwick Boseman is pretty much the best representation of excellence we have in Hollywood. The trailer for this film BLEW. ME. AWAY. It's got spunk, spirit, and what seems like an incredible plot twist. This is more than a film, it's a call to action. And, I just realized this film is premiering on my little sister's birthday. Shoutout to her.

Breathe (This Fall)

If you haven't already read my article on Spider-Man: Homecoming, you may not know how much I love Andrew Garfield. Although he's no longer a slick-talking web-slinger, Andrew has stayed busy in Hollywood. Breathe follows the love story between a husband and wife who, after the husband (Garfield) succumbs to polio, fight to not only accommodate his disability, but allow him to live his life to the fullest. It's sweet, compelling and inspiring. From what I've seen from the incredible trailer, Breathe is definitely shaping up to be the feel-good movie of the year. Plus, it's being directed by the incomparable Andy Serkis (Caesar from the Planet of the Apes franchise).

Wonder (November)

From director Stephen Chbosky, Wonder follows the story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who finds it hard to navigate life as an outcast in the 5th grade (IMDB). We've seen plenty of movies about bullying, but Wonder certainly stands out amongst those movies. It boasts an exceptional cast, including Jacob Tremblay (one of Hollywood)'s brightest starlets), Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson. This film is based on the New York Bestselling Novel by R.J. Palacio. I don't know if I'm going to get a chance to read it, but I will certainly be buying my ticket to see it! in my opinion, this film comes close to rivaling Breathe for feel-good movie of the year.

Black Panther (February 16, 2018)

You knew it was coming. But are you ready for this film?

Black Panther is sure to be an instant classic. Why? Marvel Studios has given director Ryan Coogler, Chadwick Boseman, and the rest of the all-star cast (including Andy Serkis and Michael B. Jordan) full creative liberty to create a spectacular action movie. With all of the madness occurring in this country and the ongoing discussion of race relations, it seems that even though it's 2017, peoples' mindsets are reverting back to the days of old. We could use a black superhero right about now.

Ready Player One (March 30, 2018)

This is not your average dystopian sci-fi adventure.

Based on Ernest Cline's novel of the same name, Ready Player One is a cross between Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the music, film and culture of the 1980s. Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan- another one of my favorites) is the first to find the hidden Easter egg in a worldwide virtual reality game, which puts him that much closer to winning a lifetime of fortune. Unsurprisingly, during his quest, he encounters many challenges and villains along the way. I purchased the novel from Barnes & Noble this past summer and have begun reading it. To my delight, it is inventive, humorous and enjoyable. Cline's annotations pointing out references to his 1980s jargon and pop culture mentions make the read even more interesting. Definitely pick up the book if you get a chance. Tye Sheridan is returning to the big screen, ladies and gentleman. Be ready.

Those are my picks for the films I'm most excited for in 2017 and 2018.

There are probably even more that I will discover, and if I do, I will be sure to add another post.

I'm going to be posting more on Black Panther very soon.
